FLYING MEDALS

N.Z. AIRMAN DECORATED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Official advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that two more New Zealand airmen serving overseas have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. They are Sergeant William Jack Scott, whose mother, Mrs. G. A. Scott, lives at Mangateparu, Morrinsville, and Sergeant Reginald Joseph Cowan Grant, whose sister is Miss Vera Grant, Ponsonby Club Hotel, Auckland. The citations accompanying the awards state: “Sergeant Grant has taken part in 22 operations over enemy territory, during which he has destroyed two enemy aircraft and damaged several others. His keenness and devotion to duty have set an excellent example. “A Royal Air Force pilot and Sergeant W. J. Scott, as pilot and air gunner respectively, have achieved conspicuous success during night lighting operations. One night in April, 1941, a Heinkel 111 was encountered and destroyed, and since then a further three enemy aircraft have been destroyed, of which two were shot down during the same patrol. During these operations both the pilot and sergeant haye displayed great skill and determination.”
