BARTLETTS NEWS

HOME GUARD DANCE (Herald Correspondent.) A delightful dance was held in the Bartletts Y.M.C.A. Hall on Saturday evening, in aid of the funds of the Muriwai Home Guard unit. The hail was tastefully decorated, and the music was provided by the “Snake Gully” orchestra, with an extra by Miss B. Walker. Many friends from Gisborne and Muriwai attended. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. C. Tee and Mr. R. Hutchins, and the lucky spot dance by Miss R. Ehu and Mr. M. Pohatu. A special “signallers” dance was well received, dancers having to waltz in the beams of the signal lights. A tap dance was given by a member of the orchestra. Competitions were won by Mrs. J. Clanachan, Miss C. Mulligan, and Master N. Richards. Lieutenant G. W. King thanked the dancers for their attendance and the orchestra, the M.C., the workers and friends for helping to make the function an outstanding success. Corporal J. French proved a popular M.C. A delectable home-made supper was served by the ladies’ committee and helpers. Visitors to Bartletts at the weekend included Mr. F. Jackson, Waingake, and Mr. L. Schwabe, Gisborne. —Mr. K. Muir, who is an outpatient of the Cook Hospital, spent the week-end with his family in Bartletts.
