TARGETS IN LIBYA AIRFIELDS AND PORTS HEAVY TOLL AT BARDIA (Elec. Tel Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 11 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 11. “In Libya heavy bombers of the Royal Air Force delivered a number of attacks on enemy-occupied ports and positions during Thursday night.” states a communique issued by Royal Air Force Headquarters in the Middle East. “Benghazi was again bombed. Hits were seen in the central and Cathedral Moles. Tripoli was heavily attacked. All the bombs were seen to fall in the area of the docks where fires were started. Other targets were attacked again on Friday at Capuzzo, Gambut, and Bardia. At Bardia, a Maryland aircraft damaged a number of motor transport vehicles and killed or wounded about 100 enemy personnel. It was itself attacked by an ME 110 but returned safely. “In Egypt, our fighters intercepted a number of ME 110’s off the Egyptian coast on Friday and damaged several. Fighters which engaged enemy bombers over Alexandria on Thursday night destroyed one JU 88. “In Abyssinia the remaining Italian forces which are concentrated in the Gondar region, were bombed by the South African Air Force on Thursday. All our aircraft returned safely.” An official Cairo communique states that in an air-raid on the canal zone on Friday night, bombs were dropped, causing 18 casualties of which 11 were fatal. There was some slight damage. A communique issued by General Headquarters, Cairo, states: “In Libya, a small Italian patrol which attempted to approach our lines at Tobruk was captured. Our patrols were active in the frontier area.”
