BOBBY CALF SUBSIDY POSITION EXPLAINED A Press Association telegram which appeared in the Herald on Friday stated that a price of 2s a head would be paid to producers of bobby calves killed this season. Mr. J. H. Sunderland, secretary of the Gisborne Bobby Calf Pool Committee, stated to-day that some producers were under the impression that the only payment would be one of 2s. This was not the case, for the Press Association message referred only to the Government payment for the bobby veal, which was now unexportable. Producers still had the right to sell the offal and skins, including the veils, an essential for the making of rennet for cheese production. No payment would be made for the bobby calves until all the accounts were cleared up, Mr. Sunderland said, but on present indications it would appear that producers 1 would receive between 5s and 0s per calf.
