BOYS’ ESCAPADES

POLICE ESCORT ELUDED YEAR MORE IN BORSTAL (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. Two boys, aged 17 and 15, who broke away from a police escort on the Dunedin railway station while being, taken, to the Borstal institution at Invercargill, appeared in the Children’s Court this morning. After hearing the ,*tory o£ their escapades, the magistrate, Mr. J. RBartholomew, extended their term in the Borstal by one year. The police said the boys were incorrigible. The younger was originally convicted at Thames on 19 charges, and the elder at Wellington for the unlawful conversion of a car, both being committed to the Borstal for two years. They escaped from a railway carriage and eluded a constable chasing them. Forcing their way into several premises in the city, they finally commandeered a big truck and, after stealing petrol, headed for South Otago, abandoning the vehicle at Clinton. Here they separated, but after minor burglaries joined forces again' at Balclutha/ where the younger was arrested. The elder boy was found hiding under- a hedge at Waitepeka.
