ARRIVING IN DROVES

AMERICAN AEROPLANES SYDNEY, Aug. 3. “Aeroplanes are going into England in droves from America. Everything that cannot be flown across is ferried over. It has to be seen to be credited.” This was said last night by Squadron-Leader J. A. Cohen, D.F.C., a young Australian, who flew General Gort and Mr. Duff Cooper to the Middle East last year. “The name of Australians has never been higher,” he said. “The part played by our men in the Middle East is marvelled at abroad. The Royal Air Force is full of Dominion pilots, and the new men coming in from training are thoroughly prepared ard fighting fit. “Germans have a wholesome iread of the Sunderlands. In these squadrons nearly every man is a gunner, and they all take it in turns to fly, ground staff and all.” Squadron-Leader Cohen has been recalled to Australia for special duty. He was in America when Russia entered the war. “The feeling in America was one of absolute surprisefollowed by a wave of real joy,” he said.
