PRAISE BY MINISTER

POSTAL OFFICERS AID IN WAR EFFORT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. • The biennial conference of the P. and T. Employees’ Association and Officers’ Guild opened fo-day. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. P. C. Webb, paid a tribute to the efficiency of the service in spite of the number of enlistments and the fine support the officers had given in the war effort. The Director-General, Mr. J. G. Young, said that 1862 officers were in the forces overseas and 1522 had been called up for Territorial service. Twelve had been killed, 57 were missing, 16 wounded, and 23 were prisoners of war. A number had been decorated or mentioned in dispatches. About 30 delegates are attending the conference.
