SIGNS OF DISCORD
AXIS AND BULGARIA SPOILS IN THE BALKANS BULGAR LEADER OUSTED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 2, 2.40 p.m.) LONDON, June 1. The resignation of M. Moshanoff, president of the Bulgarian Parliament, which is announced by the Free French News Agency at Istanbul, is regarded in authoritative quarters in London as a clear indication of discord between Bulgaria, Italy and Germany over the future of the Balkans. The resignation, which can only be regarded as a dismissal, is the result or M. Moshanoff’s known objections to the exploitation of his country by the German forces of occupation and his protests against Italian annexations of territory in southern Serbia. No doubt he felt he had been dismissed on Axis orders.
The dismissal is the first outward sign of tension in the Balkans existing between the three disturbers of the peace—ltaly, Germany, and Bulgaria —who are now quarrelling over the spoils. Open clashes have occurred between Bulgarian and Italian forces in southern Serbia where the Italians are claiming territory which, if not Bulgarian, is even less Italian or Albanian. It is believed that the Bulgarian War Minister’s recent visit to Berlin was connected with this dispute between Italy and Bulgaria.
