FOOD FOR BRITAIN
CARGO FROM AMERICA (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, May 31. The first cargo of food sent to Britain under the machinery of the American Lend or Lease Act arrived in a British ship at a British port. The Minister of Food, Lord Woolton, accompanied by . Mr. Averiil Harriman, President Roosevelt's coordinator of activities under the Act, inspected the cargo, which comprises over 1,000,000 eggs, 2000 cases of cheese, and 1000 tins of flour. . To Mr. Harriman, Lord Woolton said: “We are very grateful to your country for this food. It will help our people to keep up the magnificent struggle they are making.’’ Mr. Harriman replied: “We appreciate how important it is that you should have this food, which is as necessary as guns and petrol. The American people are ready to help the British people in any way they can.” , „ .
