HOME GUARD PARADE (Herald Correspondent.) Ninety-three men answered the roll call at the Nuhaka Home Guard parade on Saturday, Mr. W. F. Rolland, company commander, being' in charge. Live bomb throwing, under' the direction of- Mr. W. Ropitini took place on the beach. Signalling under the supervision of Mr. A.-A. West was given to the company signallers. Instruction in musketry, fieldcraft and rifle exercises also were given. Several Nuhaka Guardsmen, who had failed to attend a number of parades, were discharged. Instruction in home nursing was given to members of the .Women’s War Service Auxiliary by •Nurse Watson and Mrs. F. Hankin. The Ambulance section of the Home Guard was taken by Mrs. A. McKay. •It was decided to hold parades every Thursday evening and one Saturday—all day field day—once a month. Surprise Party Members of the Morere and Nuhaka Presbyterian Church gathered at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Glennv lust Friday as a surprise party'to their daughter, Miss Isobel Glenny who is leaving for Wellingiton this week to take up Karatanc 'nursing. Miss Glennv has been orjganist at the church 1 for a number of iyears. Games, and competitions caused much fund. A vocal solo was [given by Mr. R. Mclntyre, jun., and violin solos by Mr. G. Shaw, accompanied by Miss I. Glenny. Sister May Gardiner, bn behalf of the members of the church, presented the •guest of the evening with a writing case. Miss Glenny suitably responded. , Morere residents attended in full force to farewell Messrs. T. Glenny, C. Hill and G. Shaw, who are leaving for territorial camp this week. Dancing was held in the community hall,’ the music being supplied by Mr.-L. Spillcr at the piano, while Mrs. J. Goldstohe rendered a vocal item. Mr. E. B. Short entertained the company with conjuring tricks. Mr. G. Smith, on behalf of those present, presented the guests with a money belt.

Miss N. Marlin, Gisbofne, has joined the teaching staff of the Nuhaka Native School. —Miss Mclntyre; who has been relieving at the Nuhaka Native School, has been transferred to Ruatoria— Mr. D. Smith, Palmerston North, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mi’s. .G. Smith. Morere.
