CHANGE OF NAME
RETAILERS’ ASSOCIATION NEW PRICE COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Poverty Bay Drapers, Clothiers, Boot Retailers, and Furnishers’ Association, held on Thursday night, it was decided to change the name of the association to that of the Poverty Bay Retailers’ Association. One object of the change is to enlarge the membership and all retailers operating under the shop assistants’ award may become members now. Similar action is being taken throughout New Zealand with a view to forming a united retailers’ federation, which will be unanimous on all matters affecting the retail trade. Another reason for the change is that the Price Tribunal desires that all applications for increasing the prices of goods be sent through a local price committee. This committee will function as a special section of the Retailers’ Association and all retailers desiring to avail themselves of the services of the price committee must first become members of the association. Retailers who ignore the requirements of the Price Tribunal render themselves liable to heavy fines. At the initial meeting of the new Retailers’ Association the following officers were elected:—President, Mr. H. Gilmer; vice-presidents, Messrs. K. R. Waite and J. Green; executive committee, drapers’ representatives, Messrs. H. R. Kendon, R. Maddock and J. K. Rosie; clothiers, Messrs. B. Adair and V. Butler; boot retailers, Mr. I. Stephenson; furnishers, Messrs. A. Christie and H. D. Humphrey. Members of the various trades joining the association will be entitled to seats on the executive in proportion to their numbers. Mr. M. J. White will act as secretary to the new association and also to the price committee.
