WETHERS DEARER

SALE AT MATAWHERO BIG YARDING TO-DAY BREEDING EWE DEMAND LAMB VALUES DECLINE Wethers offered in the store sheep pens at the Matawhero stock sale to-day sold briskly at advanced rates, while breeding ewes sold more freely, but lamb values were lower. The yarding was the largest at the weekly stock sales for a long time, and totalled between 5000 and 0000, of which 3500 were offered by 12.30 p.m. The selling proceeded throughout lunch.

More than 1000 wethers were offered before 12.30 p.m.. the quality in most instances being good. Values advanced by Is per head. Two-tooths sold to 18s lid, with other two-tooths from 15s to 17s 6d, while older sheep ranged from 17s 6d to 19s Bd, the latter price being for good-sized four and six-tooth.

A strong demand was evident for breeding ewes, which had a higher value than those offered a month or so ago. Atea ewes attracted attention, two-tooths selling at 23s 3d, fourtooths at 21s, six-tooths at 19s 3d, and four-year at 17s 9d, while mixed ages from two-tooth upwards reached 11s ,6d, with five-year at 16s 9d. Other mixed-age ewes brought 8s 7d.

Over 1500 wether lambs came on to the market up to 12.30 p.m. Values were lower by about Is a head, and passings were frequent. The top price for the lines sold was 14s 8d for 'shorn, while there was only one other sale at 11s lid. The size and quality of many of the pens were good, but there was no outstanding line of fat and forward as there was at each of the previous two sales. Ewe lambs were in good demand at 14s 6d and 14s 8d for woolly and 18s 6d for shorn. Store Sheep Prices
