NURSING SISTERS

VISIT TO AUCKLAND A party of British Nursing Sisters from the hospital ship Somersetshire, which reached Wellington recently with 240 New Zealander soldiers on board, arrived at Auckland on Sunday in the course of a tour of the North Island as the guests of the Government. The visitors, who included Major N. Hunter, R.A.M.C., Matron E. Townend sind eight of the 14 sisters in the ship, attended church in the morning and after luilcheon were taken for a motor drive arranged by the Auckland Automobile Association. Matron Townend, who is a member of Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service, paid a warm tribute to the New Zealand troops and said she and her staff felt proud to have theift under their care. She expressed appreciation of the reception that had been given them in NeW Zealand. They had heard of the hospitality of New Zealanders, but it had exceeded all expectations. Miss Townend said, however, that much as they were enjoying their stay in New Zealand, all were naturally anxious about their own people and were eager to be on their way home. The party left on Sunday night for New Plymouth and Wanganui en route to Wellington.
