EARLY SUCCESS
CONTACTS IN TURKEY MR. ANTHONY EDEN CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF ANKARA ENTHUSIASM (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.40 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 27. According to agency messages, the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, and members of the Turkish Govern - ment began talks to-day, while the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, General Sir John Dill, also began his talks with officers of the Turkish Army. The Turkish Prime Minister gave a luncheon in honour of the British visitors to-day, and the British Ambassador is giving a dinner party this evening. Mr. Eden and General Dill attended an official dinner given last night by the Turkish Foreign Minister. Mr. Eden's secretary announced that the Ankara diplomatic and political talks were so successful that no further meeting is needed. The military delegates will continue the discussion of technical problems. Mr. Eden conferred with the President of Turkey in the evening. To-morrow he is to see the British Ambassador to Russia, Sir Stafford Cripps, who is visiting Turkey. Mr. Eden talked to-day with the Russian. Bulgarian and Yugoslav Ministers.
Both English and Turkish circles are in the highest spirits and the Ankara radio, in one of many enthusiastic broadcasts, declared that the capital was in a ferment of excitement to cheer the British guests.
