STRIKES IN HOLLAND
MARTIAL LAW IMPOSED HEAVY NAZI PENALTIES ASSEMBLIES FORBIDDEN (Reed. Feb. 28. 9 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 27. The Daily Mail says that a proclamation by General Christensen regarding North Holland forbids marching, meetings, demonstrations, street assemblies, activity . of all political parties and also the’ wearing of uniforms and insignia of any description. Incitement to strike can be punished with 15 years’ imprisonment. . Infringement of the law relating to army enterprises, in which vital in dustries are included, can be punished with death. General Christensen has delegated a Luftwaffe officer, Lieutenant Siburg, to administer martial law in North Holland. The strike which caused the proclamation occurred among municipal workers and spread to private firms. A Berlin report says that six civilians were killed and a number injured in Amsterdam during clashes between the police and “disturbers of the peace.”
