TEN LIVES LOST
AIR LINER’S CRASH DISASTER AT NIGHT CONGRESSMAN A VICTIM NOTED MEN INJURED (Reed. Feb. 28, 10.30 a.m.) ATLANTA (Georgia), Feb. 27. Eastern Air Lines officially report that 10 persons were killed when a sleeper plane crashed in scrubby pine country 20 miles from Atlanta. Those killed included Mr. William D. Byron, a member of Congress, and both pilots. The plane carried 15 people. Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, president of Eastern Air Lines, was critically injured and was taken to hospital. The passengers seriously injured include Mr. H. A. Littledale, assistant managing-editor of the New Yors Times. Mr. Littledale and his wife vere en route to Mexico for a vaca,'on. Several passengers were en route to points where the Government contemplates building important defence projects. Atlanta farmers said they heard a terrific crash at 1 a.m. E.S.T., which was five minutes after the plane which was en route to Brownsville, Texas, from New York, was scheduled to pause at Atlanta.
A posse of 500 started searching an isolated wooded area at dawn. One man returned and reported that a stationary light had been seen, arousing some hope of there being survivors.
