AMATEUR SWIMMING
CLUB RECORD BROKEN FLYING SQUADRON RACE The weekly club night of the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club was held in the Macrae Baths last night. All the events were keenly contested, a flying squadron race, in which 42 swimmers took part, causing a great deal of interest. Two club championships were decided, the 100yds junior boys’ championship being won by C. McKenzie and the 100yds junior girls’ championship by Miss A. Shields, her time being 79 3-ssec., a club record. Results: 100yds Junior Girls’ Club Championship (title holder, Miss G. Foote). — Miss A. Shields, 1; Miss M. Prendergast 2; Miss N. Broom, 3. Time, 79 3-ssec. 100yds Junior Boys’ Club Championship (title holder, P. Balfour; record holder, R. Clay, 70 2-ssec., 1936).—C. McKenzie, 1; J. Clarke, 2; C. Scanlan, 3. Time, 85 l-ssec. 220yds Women’s and Intermediate Girls’ Handicap, for the Heeney Cup (holder, Miss H. McKnightK—Mrs. McLeod, 1; Miss G. Foote, 2. Time, 3.20 1-5. 50yds Intermediate Boys’ Handicap. —First Heat: Wickens, 3sec., 1; Duckworth, ssec„ 2; Gordon, 4sec„ 3. Time, 32sec. Second Heat: Langridge, 3sec., 1; Robinson, lsec., 2; McGregor, 4sec„ 3. Time, 30sec. Final: Langridge, 1; Duckworth.-2; Wickcns, 3. Time, 31 2-5 sec.
