GREYHOUND RACING
OBSERVER’S RECORD
The weekly meeting of the Gisborne Greyhound Racing and Coursing Club was held last night. Conditions for racing were ideal, the slight shower earlier in the day making the track in perfect racing order. Two of New Zealand’s fastest greyhounds, Observer and Bonny Peter, were seen in action. At the Centennial Cup meeting held in Hastings last year Observer had a decisive win over White Tracer, the outstanding dog in Hawke’s Bay and a New Zealand championship holder. His kennel mate Bonny Peter was a runner-up in the New Zealand St. Leger and has since improved greatly. At next week’s meeting a special race will be run for dogs who cannot run a lap in under 29sec. Qualifying runs will be held on Monday evening. Results:— Limit Race. —H. W. Hosier’s Observer, 1; N. L. Davy’s Fast Passage, 2; S. Neugent’s Golden Streak, 3. Won by eight lengths. * Time, 28sec., a record for the distance. Open Race.—Mrs. E. Hosier’s Bonnie Peter, 1; E. Murphy’s Social News, 2. Won by four lengths. Time, 28 2-5 sec.
