BOOKMAKER FINED
YfeSTERDAY’S ROUNt>-UP FOUR MEN IN COURT Following a round-up yesterday afternoon, four men charged with occupying premises used as common gaming houses appeared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court in Gisborne later in the day. Robert James Burt, aged 42, , was fined £35 and costs 10s. The others, Malcolm Owen, aged 33, tobacconist, Glen Caulton, aged 46, barman, and Samuel Bardweil, aged 55, confectioner, were remanded oh bail of £IOO each to appear on March 19. Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson stated that Burt was found in possession of £69 5s 6d in cash, and papers in his possession showed that he had made bets that day totalling £23. His sole occupation was that of bookmaker. He had been before the court previously.
