REFUSAL OF EXEMPTION Claiming exemption from military service for conscientious reasons based on his political belifes, Charles Peter Fury, a labourer, told the Armed Forces Appeal Board in Wellington he would not hesitate to fight for his own intertsts or for the interests of the working classes. Appellant produced a book by Karl Marx, and said that was his authority. As a Marxian, he claimed lie was a scientific Socialist, and the only way in which he could favour war was Where it would clear the way foxclass war. He was opposed to the present war, because he believed it would lower the standard of living and make conditions worse for the working classes. The appeal was dismissed.
