AUCKLAND, this day. ■ “Australia and New Zealand face much the same problems arising from the loss of several export markets and restrictions on others, and also the possibility of further restrictions being applied as the war progresses,” said the Australian assistant Minister of Commerce and Assistant Treasurer, Mr. H. L. Anthony, on arrival in Auckland by the flying-boat Awarua from Sydney. “The chief purpose of my visit is simply to discuss these problems,” he added. Mr. Anthony, who was accompanied by Mr. A. C. W. Fisken, chairman of the Australian Meat Producers’ Board, was met on arrival by the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Barclay. The party left later for Wellington. Meat Industry Mr. Anthony explained that because of the need to store meat for the time being it had been found necessary in Australia to reorganise the . industry generally. Many problems had been created and, as New Zealand faced much the same situation, it was felt that there would be a great gain in discussions between representatives of the two Governments. Both Dominions had a common purpose—to win the war —so that a closer bond of understanding on many aspects was especially desirable. Manifestly, each should appreciate what the other was doing and what might be possible from a basis of common action. Matters relating to finance and commercial relations generally will also be discussed by Mr. Anthony with members of the New Zealand Cabinet.
