ADVICE TO LEAVE
BRITISH NATIONALS THAILAND TERRITORY JAP.-OCCUPIED CHINA MASSING OF TROOPS (Reed. Feb. 17 3 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 16. A Bangkok message states that the British Legation has advised British women and children to leave Thailand as soon as possible. A Government communique advises the population to remain calm. It says that the tension in the Far East does not threaten to involve Thailand. A Shanghai message states that the British Embassy has reiterated the advice given in October that nationals who have no good reason for remaining should consider the advisability of leaving Japanese-occupied China. Almost certainly it will be impossible to provide special facilities for departure at short notice. Therefore the earliest possible booking is advised.
A Chungking message states that the Central News, which is the agency of the Central Chinese Government, claimed authoritative information today that six Japanese divisions arc now stationed at Canton and Hainan Island, French Indo-China and the Spratley Islands and also four divisions in Formosa. The latter include two divisions fresh from Japan and one from Manchukuo.
