KING’S THEATRE

“MEET DR. CHRISTIAN” AND “STAGE TO CHINO” Rarely does a film portray a true picture of small town life so well as does the new Jean Hersholt starring film, “Meet Dr. Christian," which is screening at the King’s Theatre today and Thursday. It is a warm and human story of a small town physician who dedicates his life to the welfare of his friends and neighbours. In it, Hersholt gives one of his most convincing performances to date. He portrays Dr. Paul Christian with an case and naturalness and kindly graciousness that leaves the spectator with the feeling of having known intimately the lovable medico. The story centres around the efforts of the doctor to wake up the small town ol River’s End to its need for a hospital. Balked at every hand in his treatment of sickness in the community by a lack of suitable, modern equipment, it is only with the greatest difficulty and through a near-tragedy that Hersholl succeeds in his mission. There is a romantic side to the story, too, with Dorothy Lovett, as Nurse Judy Price, and Robert Baldwin, as her village swain, taking the spotlight for this side of the proceedings. The associate feature is a thrilling western drama, starring George O’Brien in “Stage to Chino.” —“Pinocchio”: Friday— The box plans for Walt Disney’s “Pinocchio.” which opens its season at the King’s Theatre next Friday, arcreported to be filling rapidly. Intending patrons are urged to reserve .seats as early as possible.
