LOSS OF DESTROYERS

THREE BRITISH SHIPS OPERATIONS OFF FRANCE (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, May 30. The Admiralty announces that its operations on the French and Belgian coasts are being conducted ceaselessly by day and night with coolness and determination in the face of fierce opposition, particularly from the air. The German High Command claimed to have inflicted very large losses on the naval units and the transports which they protected. As usual these claims bear no relation to the facts. Operations of this nature cannot be carried out without losses.

The destroyers, Grafton, Grenade and Wakeful, and certain small auxiliary craft have been lost. The transport Abukir, of 689 tons, was also sunk. The spirit and conduct of all concerned are beyond all praise.
