DUTCH SPIES GAOLED
WORKING FOR GERMANY TRACED BY PHOTOGRAPH CARPET DESIGN CLUE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. March 29, 2 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, March 28. Two high Dutch Government officials have been imprisoned for espionage on behalf of Germany. They are Van Hoeven -of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, who was sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment and his chief clerk who received a term of 18 months. Van Hoeven’s wife was also sentenced to 18 months gaol. Photographs of Ministerial documents fell into the hands of the police who noticed that the margin of one bore the design of a carpet. They found the design matched the carpet in Van Hoeven's house. This proved to be the master clue.
