War and Church Collections
“One effect of the war seems' to be the reappearance of the threepennypiece in the collection plate,” stated the vicar of Te Kuiti, the Rev. E. W. Hancock, in the course of parish notes contributed to the Waikato Diocesan Magazine. Pie said that on the first Sunday in Lent there was a far greater number of these coins than of any other denomination, and he expressed the hope that, whatever had to be “cut” in these anxious times, it would not be the Church of God.
