Quiet Wedding
Corkery—Mead Gown of Ivory Lace A pretty wedding was solemnised quietly in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lowe street, on Saturday afternoon, when Emily Christina, younger daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Mead, Gisborne, was married to Thomas Joseph, son of Mrs. Corkery and the late Mr. T. Corkery, Gisborne. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Fahey.
The bride, who was escorted by her brother-in-law, Mr. F. E. Wallen, wore a frock of ivory cob-webby lace, exquisite in its simple elegance. The softly rucked bodice, showing a Vsliaped neckline and long-fitting sleeves pointed over the hand, was caught down the front with tiny buttons of matching satin, and the biascut skirt swept into a slight train. Her filmy veil of tulle, deeply bordered with lace, was held in place with a top-knot of orange blossom, and ivory brocade and silver shoes were worn with stockings to tone. The bride’s only ornament was a string of Richelieu pearls, and 'she carried a lovely shower bouquet of cream gladioli and delicate pink roses, intermingled with maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids were Miss Dorothy McDiarmid and Miss Margery Wallen, niece of the bride. Each wore a picture frock of hydrangea blue Swiss muslin printed in a floral design in contrasting shades of blue, pink and white. The fitting bodice, pointed at the waistline in front, was designed with a heart-shaped neckline and short puff sleeves, and the bouffant skirt just revealed silver sandals. A cap of blue tulle finished with a pleated halo bound with silver, made an attractive headdress, and each attendant carried a bouquet of blue delphiniums and pink gladioli, relieved with touches of greenery. Mr. Alistair McDiarmid carried out the duties of best man.
After the ceremony a small, charm-ingly-arranged reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Wallen, Aberdeen road.
Mrs. Wallen was wearing an elegant frock of navy blue and white sheer, with a navy coat and hat to match. Her bouquet was composed of flamecoloured gladioli and roses in cream and orange tonings. The bride travelled in a jumper suit of navy blue cloque printed in a narrow floral stripe, worn with a small navy hat and a matching edge-to-edge coat of wool georgette. Navy accessories completed the smart ensemble.
