AUSTRALIAN OFFICERS AIR FORCE APPOINTMENT (Reed. Jan. 9, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 8. The Minister for Air, Mr. J. V. Fair, bairn, to-day replied to criticism tv Country Party leaders of Air ViceMarshal Sir Charles Burnett’s appointment as Chief of the Air Staff of the Australian Air'Force ir succession to Vice-Marshal S. J. Goble, who, at his own request, was relieved of the post. Mr. Fairbairn declared that there was nobody in Australia with experience of large-scale flying training si. ch as the Commonwealth was about to undertake under the Empire air scheme. Sir Charles Burnett, he added, was a man of exceptional ability with the whole problem of air training at his finger tips. Mr. Fairbairn repudiated the Country Party's suggestion that Sir Charles Burnett’s appointment amounted to a disparagement of the ability of Australian Air Force officers.
