ATHLETIC VISITORS
AUSTRALIAN HURDLER JUMP RECORD ATTEMPT GISBORNE MEETING A brilliant Australian athlete, Sid Stenner, will appear at the amateur athletic meeting to be held on the Childers Road Reserve to-morrow evening. Stenner is the hurdles champion of Australia, and is also a sprinter and jumper of some note. He has been clocked over the 100yds. distance in even time,, and has some good heights to his reeded in the high jump. Len Grey, Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay centre champion, who secured second place in the national high jump last season, will be associated with Stgpner ih an attempt on the New Zealand record of 6ft. sin. Grey recently jumped 6ft. l|in., «in. off the highest jump for a New Zealander in the Dominion, and he will be out to improve that figure. Other visitors will be R. V. Phillips, ex-New Zealand and Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay champion for the high jump, and G. I. Bickerstaff, Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay hurdles champion. A full programme of track and field events will be staged.
