RECRUITING SPEEDS UP

SOUTHERN TERRITORIALS

RUSH OF ENROLMENTS MILITARY RESERVE (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this' day. Recruiting for the military forces in the South Island has been proceeding at an accelerated, pace during the past month. Every unit of the Territorial Army in the southern military district is now up to peace establishment, and many of them are Over it. This information was .released hy Colonel Bell, officer commanding, this morning. At the end of July the total number of officers and men in all units in the South Island nuinbered 4615. That number has been increased to 5156. Volunteers for the National Military Reserve have-also been rushing for enrolment forms during the past week. Last Monday morning returns compiled in the Christchurch military district showed the total number of enrolments was 2319. This morning at 9 o’clock the total was 2531, .an increase of 212. The largest increase on any single day of this week was recorded yesterday when 163 enrolments were made. That figure represented the largest daily enrolment since the first week of the appeal and a parade followed of reservists on Wednesday night at King Edward Barracks.
