Cyclist Breaks Record
Twenty-three-year-old Wanganui amateur cyclist, Dudley Mitchell, in his second attempt within a month, has broken both the professional and 1 amateur road cycling record from! Auckland to Wellington. Leaving! Auckland at noon on Wednesday, I Mitchell arrived at Wellington Post' Office 30 hours 20 minutes later, after I covering approximately 456 miles at 1 an average speed of just over 15 miles I an hour. The previous amateur record' was 35 hours 11 minutes. The set pro- 1 fessional record is 31 hours 58 minutes by O. Barnard (Dunedin). A big crowd gave the cyclist a rousing , reception when he pulled in at Wei- , lington Post Office at 6.20 p.m.—!’ (P.A.)
