SOUTH AFRICA AND BRITAIN HOLD DEFENCE TALKS
LONDON, September 28 (Rec 12.30 p.m.).—Defence talks between South Africa and Britain have been “satisfactorily concluded” on a Ministerial level and are now to be carried forward on a staff level, the Minister of Defence, Mr E. Shinwell, announced tonight. A communique said that South African Defence Minister, Mr Erasmus, yesterday resumed discussions with Mr Shinwell and the Commonwealth Relations Minister, Mr Gordon Walker.
The talks were on defence matters of mutual interest, with particular reference to the defence of Africa.
