LUXURY LINER TO VISIT N.Z. ON WORLD CRUISE
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day (P.A.).—The Caronia, the largest passenger liner built since the war, will bring hundreds of wealthy tourists for a short visit to New Zealand when it calls at the North Island in February on its first trip to New Zealand waters. The Caronia, which has a displacement of 34,183 tons, will be on a luxury 111-day round-the-world cruise The British liner would reach Auckland on February 6, sailing again on February 7, and would berth at Wellington for a few hours on February 9, said Mr J. F. Beckett, Christchurch manager for Thos. Cook and Son, who will organise short excursions. Mr Beckett said that arrangements had been made for two parties, each of 20 members, to visit Christchurch during the Caronia’s stay m Auckland. . The parties would fly to Harewood in specially-chartered aircraft. One party would go on to Hanmer to spend the night there, while the other party would stay overnight m Christchurch. Most of the passengers on the cruise would be Americans, said Mr Beckett.
