GOLF Good Scores Returned In Club Matches

The Greymouth Golf Club was again unlucky with the weather when play in the winter championships last week-end had to be postponed. However, some good scores were returned in the matches on Saturday, the best of which was that of J. Garth in who with a score of 78, played six strokes below his handicap, Garth is a consistent golfer and bids fair to become a regular member of the representative team. R. Francis also played below his handicap to win in the intermediate grade, and is now hitting through the ball better, with a resulting improvement in length and accuracy. The junior event was won by the long-driving R. Berry, who is having a highly successful first season. He has already reduced his handicap by 13 strokes. • Recent handicap reductions include: J. Garth 7, R. Francis 11, D. Hardie 10, R. Berry 17.

Waitahu Women s Matches

The following is the Waitahu Ladies’ Golf Club draw for an L.G.U. match to be played on Saturday, commencing at No. 3 tee at 1 p.m.:— Seniors.-—Miss King, Mrs Crossman, Mrs Strachan, Mrs Patterson; Mrs Lyng, Mrs Yellowlees, Mrs Millar, Mrs Lockington; Mrs Wills, Mrs Bissett, Miss Williams; Mrs Dobson, Mrs August, Miss Patterson. The draw for a medal round for juniors to commence at No. 1 tee at 1 p.m. is as follows:—Mrs Weir, Miss Mosley, Miss Rae, Mrs Broughton; Mrs Cunniffe, Mrs Panckhurst, Mrs Schroeder, Mrs Newcombe; Mrs Marshall, Miss Campbell, Mrs Ourry, Miss Williams; Miss J. Archer, Mrs Lee, Mrs Hannah, Mrs Nicholls; Mrs Roberts, Mrs Archer, Miss Potter, Miss Maindonald; Mrs Campbell, Miss O’Flaherty, Mrs Cartwright; Miss Hannah, Mrs Gallagher, Miss Nicholls. On Sunday the Murqhison Golf Club will visit the Waitahu Golf Club. A draw for this match will be published later if possible, and will also be posted in the clubhouse.
