Building In Borough
During the month of May, the
Greymouth Borough Council issued 16 permits, for building work estimated to cost £8,220.
Fences At Borough Property Further reference to the high fences round the new Greymouth municipal property was made at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. Replying to questions by Cr H. Hutchinson, the Mayor (Mr F. F. Boustridge) said it had been agreed that the lowering of the Tainui street fence should be the last job done and that, after the removal of the lattice, the council should have a further discussion before interfering with the fence. Personally, said the Mayor, he would not like to see the fence lowered to any considerable extent until there was an opportunity to observe the effects of the removal of a considerable amount of shelter from the grounds. Coaches For Centennial
The director of the Canterbury Museum (Mr R. Duff) has placed only one restriction on the u'se of the museum’s one coach by the Greymouth Borough Council for the Canterbury centennial procession. The condition is that the drivers should be correctly attired in period costume and not as a cross between “a circus clown and a hard-up dance.” Advice that the museum was prepared to make the coach available for the procession was received at last night’s meeting of the Grey mouth Borough Council when the Mayor (Mi’ F. F. Boustridge) commented that the remarks regarding the driver’s dress would be duly noted. The Mayor also stated that it meant that two coaches would be available for the West Coast display and he would make a further report on the proposals for participation in the centennial celebrations at a later date. An invitation from the Lyttelton procession committee, for the coach to be included in the Lyttelton display on December 16 was held over for inquiries.
