Labour Federation Meeting The special meeting of the national council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour to consider the interim order issued by the Court of Arbitration has been fixed for Thursday and Friday of next week. —(P.A.). Terms Expire The terms of four members of the Board of Managers of the Greymouth Technical High School expire in August. They are the terms of the employees’. representative, Mr S. Gladstone, and of the three parents’ representatives, Mrs G. Blair, Mr P. C. Thomson and Mr J. H. North. No Quorum The third attempt by the Greymouth Consumers’ Co-operative Society to hold its half-yearly meeting did not meet with success last evening when only 17 members were present. The quorum is 20. The society has a membership of over 400. Operatic Pro'duction The outstanding costumes and scenery effects which were made at Greymouth for the Greymouth Operatic Society’s production -of “The Geisha” last year, are to be put to further use. The Wellington Musical and Dramatic Society has hired them for its production of “The Geisha” which is to open a week’s season in the Grand Opera House on Saturday. The Wellington Society states that the production will cost £1650. Kumara Bus Service The daily bus service bringing school pupils from Kumara to Greymouth is to cease shortly. The Canterbury Education Board is negotiating with a view to establishing an alternative . service, and the beard’s transport officer is to visit Greymouth for that purpose this week.’ The service, which was established between Kumara and Greymouth last year to cater for workers, is not affected, it is understood, and will run as usual. New Pay Increase A decision to make immediate arrangements for increasing the pay o'f members of the staff employed, by the board, in accordance with the announcement of the Arbitration Court, was reached by the Board of Managers of the Greymouth Technical High School last evening. It was agreed that the increase should be extended to cover the matron and domestic staff at the school hostel. The board was advised that, because of the increase in roll numbers, two members of the teaching staff could now.be registered as career advisers, entailing an annual allowance of £4O a year each. Rule Relaxed Though some years ago it had been ruled that no outside organisations should be given use of .school buildings because of the risk of damage, the Board of Managers of the Greymouth Technical High School last evening relaxed this embargo. Following an announcement that permission had been given for the Salvatipn Army to use the cookery block during the King’s Birthday week-end —the proposed camp was abandoned due to inclement weather—the board decided to allow organisations the use of school buildings subject to the deposit of a £5 bond with which to meet the repair of . damage not made good.
