Seamen Disapprove Of Wage Order: Proposed Action

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.). —Stop-work meetings of seamen were called for by a meeting of the Seamen’s Union in Wellington today after consideration of the interim wage order decision, it was announced after the meeting by the President of the union, Mr F. P. Walsh. Mr Walsh said the meeting strongly disapproved of the amount awarded by the Court on. the grounds that it was inconsistent with the expert evidence called by the Court itself. The meeting approved of the action of» the Federation of Labour executive in calling a meeting of its national council to consider the interim wage order and decided that its own national council should meet to consider whatever recommendations the Federation of Labour council might make. The meeting requested the national council then to convene stop-work meetings of seamen to consider the recommendations of both councils. A motion proposing that the union should take part in the Trades Union Congress demonstration to Pai hament on its opening day received only one vote, said Mr Walsh.
