DROUGHT AT CAPE FOR FIVE YEARS

CAPE TOWN, Feb. 15 (Rec. 10.30 a.m.).— Drought killed more than 900,000 cattle last year in the Border, Midlands and Transkei areas of eastern Cape Province, according to official estimates. The drought has now lasted five years and though there have been moderate rains recently, the position is still serious. In some parts boreholes have dried up and towns have been depending on water carried by rail. The churches are praying for rain.
