REEFTON More Information Sought On Mining Bursaries
REEFTON, This Day (O.C.).—The fact that a sub-committee would seek more detailed information on the conditions governing the granting of bursaries to coal mining students was reported to the November meeting of the council of the Reefton Schoo! of Mines by lhe. director, Mr W. J. Bolitho, B.Sc. When this information is to hand, a conference of West Coast .Schools of Mines is to be called to discuss the whole subject of the new bursaries and travelling scholarships recently announced by the Mines Department. No applications having been received for the position of school secretary, it was decided that an endeavour be made to fill the position tempo?nrilv. The director's monthly report showed thtst class attendances had been maintained at all teaching centres, the total number of students attending remaining at 51, Reefton having 25 of this number. Messrs G. Richards, T. Brazil and F. Marshall, all of Reefton, who recently sat the written tests for first class colliery managers’ certificates had been called to Wellington for the oral tests. The annual School of Mines examination?: in all subjects, would commence at Reefton next week. Congratulations were extended to Messrs Marshall. Richards and Brazil on their success in the mines examination, by the president (Mr J. B. Auld). Eight members wore presept at the meeting. ’ FIREMEN’S DEMONSTRATION The Reefton. Fire Brigade’s demonstration team is now practising to compete in events at the West Coast Fire Brigades’ demonstration, to be held at Kumarri late this month. Fireman F. Rcllerson is to be the Reefton delegate for the business meeting.
