N.Z. 5s PIECE TO BE ISSUED NEXT WEEK
WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.) — Next Thursday, November 17, a crown or five-shilling piece will be available at trading banks in New Zealand. Originally minted for issue during the Royal tour, the coins were held when the tour was cancelled, and it has now been decided that as they bear the date .1949 they should be issued this year. The bulk of - the 200.000 coms minted had been received in New Zealand and preparations were complete for their issue through the trading banks on as wide a scale as possible, said the Minister of Finance '(Mr Nash) today. Small supplies are available in London, Washington, Montreal, San Francisco, Sydney and Melbourne for the convenience of overseas collectors, who should address their inquiries to the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, the New Zealand Consul-General in San Francisco and the New Zealand Government Trade Commissioner in the other cities.
The crown is 1.525 inches in diameter and has on the observe the uncrowned figure of His Majesty the King with the words “King George the '"Sixth.” On the reverse is a fern frond among four five-pointed stars which represent the constellation _ of the Southern Cross and the wording “New Zealand crown. 1949.”
