Mr Kent At Cobden

Sir.—l was foolish enough to attend Mr Kent’s meeting last evening at which 34 were present and all I can say is that, from a political point of view it was a pitiable performance. He is on a par with Mr Semple. His address alone was uninteresting. He had no Labour policy to outline. What the Cobden people think of Mr Kent can be judged by the attendance at the meeting. We had never seen or heard of him since last election. I am in agreement with “Elector” that the final meetings of both the Nationalist and Labour candidates on election eve should be broadcast from our local station. I am strongly opposed to Mr Fraser monopolising the radio on that evening. I cannot understand why this should be allowed, but, rest assured, the people are fully aware of the meaning of this type of trickery. I am amused when I hear that Mr Nash is regarded' by some as a good financier. Did he not fail in his own business? I note also that Mr Kent has to be “supported” by Mr M. Moohan in delivering his printed message in the mining districts, but I credit the miners with more brains than to take notice of anything that Mr Kent tells them. I conclude with the wish that he does not again appear in Cobden. —Yours etc. FAIR PLAY Cobden, November 8.
