THE KING VISITS BRITISH AND AMERICAN NAVIES

LONDON, November 8 (Rec. 11 a.m.). —British and American naval gunners stood by this morning to fire a Royal salute to the King when he visited Portsmouth to go aboard the United States cruiser Colombus. The British ships greeted the King with a 21-gun salute on his arrival at Portsmouth station, where the garrison commander, Colonel J. C. Fried - berger, presented him with the keys of the city. American gunners fired a 21-gun salute after the King had been piped aboard the Colombus and another as he left the cruiser, which is the flagship of Admiral R. L. Connolly, com-mander-in-chief of the United States naval forces in the Eastern Atlantic. The King, who wore the uniform of Admiral of the Fleet, was accompanied by the First Lord, Viscount Hall, and Admiral of the Fleet Lord Fraser, the First Sea Lord.
