Liberals Invited To Join Conservatives
LONDON, September 24.—The chairman of the Conservative Party (Lord Woolton), speaking at St Anstell, Cornwall, invited rank and file Liberals to join rhe Conservatives to oust the Labour Government. “Whatever party leaders might, decide no man who believed in Lioerism can support the Socialist proposals to nationalise steel, cement, sugar and industrial insurance,” said Lord Woolton. “Once we have learned the folly of trusting our fate and national fortunes to our present leaders, Britain will rise again to its timehonoured position ofi leadership in the world of industry and commerce. Discussing devaluation, Lord V oolton said that if Sir Stafford Cripps were right, he was much too late and his judgment in July was “deplorably wrong.” It should be rememoered that as a result of the actions of the last Socialist Government in 1931, the National Government had to go on the gold standard, and even then the value of the pound dropped only 16 per cent, he added.
