AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR GAMES SEEKING SUBSIDY
SYDNEY, This Day (Rec. 11 a.rn.). —A subsidy to help to defray the cost of sending Australia's team to the Empire Games in Auckland will be sought from the Federal Government. An approach will be made to the Prime Minister, Mr Chifley, tomorrow, by the chairman of the Empire Games Federation, Mr H. G. Alderson. Mr Alderson will place before Mr Chifley a case for presentation to the Federal Cabinet. Officials of sporting organisations are hopeful that the Cabinet will make a grant of at least £3OOO. This amount was given by the Government in 1948 for the Olympic Games team. It is estimated that it will cost Australia £lOO for each athlete and official sent to the Games.
