All Quotas Reached In National Savings Scheme
All postal districts have now reached their annual National Savings objectives for the current financial year. This is the earliest 100 per cent, success achieved since the quota scheme commenced in 1941. The year’s target of £5,126,212, based on a weekly savings of 4s a household, was exceeded without the inclusion of war gratuity transfers. Over 22,000 new National Savings accounts have been opened since April 1, 1949, of which over 7000 were group accounts. Group deposits for the same period reached £600,000. The Westland district returns for the week ended September 16 are as follows (quotas in parentheses):— Greymouth, £951 (£530); Blackball, £6O (£55); Brunnerton, £337 (£60); Hokitika, . £lO5O (£195); Kumara, £26 (£26); Otira, £l2 (£10); Reefton, £353 (£90); Ross, £l4 (£25); Runanga, £34 (£100); Waiuta, £32 (£25).
