It was recently admitted that the loss for 12 months was £115,000, but it would be interesting to know how this figure is arrived at. An estimate by an Australian visitor put the figure at £40.000 a week, which is nearer the mark. On present building costs, the State would still be losing money if the rent were raised by £1 per we ok But “Another Unjust Tax” has another worry. Say in 10 years’ time the supply of houses has caught up with the demand and he then wants to sell his house, he will find that the prospective purchaser will not oe prepared to give more than, say, £lOOO. Otherwise it would pay him to rent a State house. —The Seeker
