BLACKBALL, This Day (0.C.).--The Blackball Amateur Musical and Dramatic society’s new season’s show “Hi Jinks” was greeted by an. audience of 850, who paid £lOO to see it in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday evening. Mrs Taylor, the producer, was popular with her audience and carried the show with a swing. All the members of the cast gave evidence of cohesion, and much, time spent in rehearsing. At the conclusion of the show- Mr H. Buchan thanked the audience on behalf of the company for their attentive bearing and support. A dance followed and was well attended. The show travelled to Runanga on Monday evening and was well received by an appreciative audience. The Blackball fourth grade Rugby League team, in charge of Mr W. Kells, left for Christchurch yesterday. It will play the Canterbury fourth grade representatives in a curtain raiser to the Australian v _ South Island League match at Athletic Park tomorrow.
Some 300 people travelled from Blackball on Wednesday to witness the Australian v West Coast league match and business were closed for the afternoon. Unless fairly heavy rain is experienced soon several householders will again be facing a water shortage. A second playing area is being prepared on the domain. This area is on the eastern end of the property and recently the Domain Board let a contract for the removal of a band of trees. This work has now been completed and only the soiling of the area remains to be done. The Domain Board has been enterprising in its efforts to help all sporting bodies and when completed the new area will accommodate cricket and hockey teams besides helping the present area becoming overtaxed. Blackball should then possess one of the finest recreational areas on the West Coast
