AMERICAN POLICY ON FRANCO REGIME IN SPAIN
LONDON, September 22 (Rec. 1 p m.).—The United States Secretary of State, Mr Dean Acheson, has told the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. Ernest Bevin, that . America will not permit the Franco regime to pe ■ overthrown by the Communists or. Spanish Left-wing extremists ■ the Daily Mail. - •. i‘A". •. ' ;'• ' Mr Acheson has explained that full recognition of General Franco is still repugnant to the United States, but that it is essential to take every possible means to avoid Communist expansion. . ’ Mr Acheson and Mr Sevin also agree that India is the most logical bastion for building up against Communism in the Far East. They agree should be given every possible, financial and economic assistance to ensure her stability.
