z Opera House FINALLY TONIGHT: '‘Arch of Triumvh.” Commencing Tomorroib: “Ramrod.” starring Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake. Authenticity is the keynote of Ramrod,” an exciting filmisation of Luke Short’s well-read novel, commencing at the Opera House tomorrow. Set- against the background of the 1870 West, this sprawling saga has all the magnificance of the early days in the West. The story tells of a selnsh domineering woman who makes use of her feminine charms to gam control Of a cattle town. There are no fancy chaps; no trick rodeoJriders nor singing cowboys, but there are scenic moments of breath-taking splendour with, action to match. Not to disregard the engrossing love story which is interwoven with the plot. Veronica Lake and Joel McCrea share top honours on the marquee, with Preston Foster, Donald Crisp, Charlie Ruggles, Don de Fore and Arleen Whelan in the featured roles.
Regent'Theatre FINALLY TONIGHT: “One Night With Yon,” starring Patricia Roc, Nmd Martini. Commencing Tomorrow: “On An Island With You,” starring Esther Williams. You’ll yearn to be on an island with Esther Williams, Peter Lawford and Jimmy Durante when you see “On An Island With You.” With its all-laugh plot highlighted by such spectacular production members as an underwater ballet in which aqua star Miss Williams is seen to advantage, and some ■wonderful dance routines featuring Ricardo Montalban and Cyd Charisse, the fastpaced story revolves about a motion picture troupe on location in the Hawaiian Islands. Jimmy Durante, as the company’s harassed assistant director on those slim shoulders all the “dirty work” falls, finds himself driven to the breaking point when the crew is augmented by a technical. adviser in the person of Peter Lawford. For Lav;ford, in an attempt to break up the romance between Miss Williams and Montalban, kidnaps the star and holds her prisoner until her resistance melts away.
