LABOUR NOMINEE WITHDRAWS: ‘INTRIGUE’ REPORT
WELLINGTON, Sept. 21 (P.A.).— When Mr C. H. Chapman, M.P., and Mr J. H. Collins were before the Wellington Labour Representation Committee this evening as nominees for selection as Labour candidate for Wellington Central (now’ held by Mr Chapman), Mr Collins made a lastminute withdrawal. He is reported to have expressed disgust at “intriguing” within the trade Union movement over the selection. Mr Chapman, then the only remaining nominee, was declared selected as candidate. His name will go to the national executive of the party for endorsement. When approached after the meet-ing,-Mr' Collins, who is secretary of the committee, said: “A resolution was passed that no publicity be given to this meeting, Therfore I have nothing to say.”
